The process of training to drive a car usually starts at the age of 18. From this point onwards, there is no restriction on the age of the candidate.
For the novice driver who obtains a new type of license, the obligation to renew his license is every 15 years, including necessary medical examinations, until the age of 65. Thereafter, renewal is required every three years as long as doctors confirm the driver's fitness.
Holders of a car driving license are allowed to drive vehicles in several categories:
Category B1: It is only addressed to people who already have a driver's license of this category, issued by foreign authorities, when exchanging or converting to a Greek license.
Category B: It is allowed to drive cars with a maximum permissible mass of up to 3,500 kg, designed to transport up to eight (8) passengers, in addition to the driver. They can also be combined with a trailer, provided the total mass does not exceed 4,250 kg, and they can be driven with a category B driving licence.

If it is your first time in the field and your training card has been issued, the next step is to proceed with the theoretical and practical training before the driving test.
For the theoretical training, you must attend 21 hours of theory at KETHEVO (Centre for Theoretical Training of Candidate Drivers). This will give you the knowledge you need to pass the theory test, covering topics such as driving signals.
For practical training, you must complete 25 hours of practical driving in a training car, with either an automatic or manual transmission. This will give you the necessary comfort in handling the car, knowledge of the Road Traffic Code, economical driving skills and parking skills, preparing you for the practical driving tests.
If you already have a motorcycle license, your obligation is limited to 18 hours of practical driving and examination.
