The age at which one can start the process of obtaining a motorcycle driving license depends on the choice of category:

  • For the AM category, it is possible to start from the age of 16 with the condition of the guardian's signature.
  • For category A1, the appropriate age is from 18 years.
  • For category A2, one can start from the age of 20.
  • For category A, the appropriate age is from 24 years or after 2 years of holding the category A2 diploma.
 

 

     
     
 

Depending on the age and category you have chosen, you can drive the following types of vehicles:

  • Category AM: Motorcycles with displacement up to 50 cm³ and light four-wheeled vehicles.
  • Category A1: Motorcycles with a maximum displacement of 125 cm³, a maximum power of 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of less than 0.1 kW/kg, as well as motorized three-wheelers with a power of up to 15 kW.
  • Category A2: Motorcycles with a maximum power of 35 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of less than 0.2 kW/kg, not derived from a modification of another motorcycle with more than twice the original power.
  • Category A: All motorcycles and motorized tricycles with a power of more than 15 kW.
 

 

 

If you wish to start the process of learning to drive, your first step is to obtain your Training & Examination Card (DEC). This paper includes your theory and practical exams.

To get your first driver's license, you need to follow these steps:
  • Have a VAT number.
  • Have a Greek Identity Card or residence permit or work permit (which must be valid for at least 185 days).
  • Submit 2 passport photos (4cm x 6cm).
  • Visit a pathologist and an ophthalmologist for medical examinations (cost 2 x 10€).
  • Issue and pay the following bills via e-Bill:
    Driving license (Issue-Extension-Renewal code 20)
    Consolidated Initial Grant of category code 32
    Theoretical Examination M.S.TH.E.Y.O. code 2037
    Qualification and Behavior Test code 2038
  • Fill it out Diploma Printing Application.
  • Fill it out Application for Initial Grant (M-TAO01) of Y.M.E.

By following these steps, you'll be ready to start your driver's license training.

To renew your motorcycle license, the following are required:

To extend your car driving license, you need to follow the steps below:
  • You have a Tax Registration Number (TIN).
  • You produce two photos, passport size (4cm x 6cm).
  • You hold a Greek Identity Card or residence permit or work permit, valid for at least 185 days.
  • You have a valid driving license for a car.
  • You open an e-Paravolo account and issue the necessary invoices, specifically:
    Consolidated Extension in category with code 33.
    Qualification and Conduct Test with code 2037.
    Qualification and Conduct Test with code 2038.
  • Fill it out Diploma Printing Application.
  • Fill it out Application for Initial Grant (M-TAO02) of Υ.Μ.Ε.

 

 

 

     
     
 

Having already received the training card, you are ready to proceed. According to the law, you must attend certain theoretical and practical courses before your driving test.

For the first driver's license:

Theoretical Education

In order to be prepared for the theory exams, you are required to attend a total of 31 hours of theoretical training at KETHEVO (Centre for Theoretical Training of Candidate Drivers). This will provide you with the necessary knowledge required to pass the theory test, including driving signals for both cars and motorbikes.

Practical training

To prepare for the practical driving tests, you are required to complete 14 hours of practical riding on a training motorcycle, either with an automatic transmission for category AM or A1, or with a manual transmission. During these training hours, you will gain the necessary comfort in handling the motorcycle, understand and apply the Road Traffic Regulation, develop economical driving practices and practice various maneuvering procedures on the track in order to easily pass the practical tests driving.

The 31 hours include all 20 hours of car theory.

Regarding the upgrade of the motorcycle license:

Theoretical Education

There is no compulsory theoretical training and no theory exams are required.

Practical training

In order to prepare for the practical driving tests, it is necessary to complete 6 hours of practical riding on a training motorcycle, either with an automatic transmission (for category A1 only), or with a manual transmission. During these training hours, you will get comfortable handling the bike, familiarize yourself with the Road Traffic Code, learn about economical driving and practice track maneuvering techniques in order to pass your practical driving test.

Regarding the extension of the driver's license for a car:

Theoretical Education

To prepare for the theory exams, you are required to attend 11 hours of theoretical training at KETHEVO (Centre for Theoretical Training of Candidate Drivers). This will provide you with the knowledge necessary to pass the theory exams, covering topics such as motorcycle driving signals.

Practical training

To prepare for your practical driving test, you are required to complete 12 hours of practical riding on a training motorcycle, either with an automatic transmission for the AM or A1 categories, or with a manual transmission. During these training hours, you will gain the necessary comfort in handling the motorcycle, familiarize yourself with the Road Traffic Regulation, train in economical driving and practice various maneuvering techniques on the track. All this in order to easily prepare for the practical driving tests.
